Part of the Agricultural Biotechnology Seminar Series, this virtual seminar was a one-day event organized to encourage open discussion on the regulation of products of genetic engineering and genome editing between APEC member economies. Led by experts, this workshop facilitated delivery of presentations on the adoption of genome editing into breeding programs. Regulation of products of agricultural biotechnology developed using this technology were also discussed. The workshop was organized by the Agriculture & Food Systems Institute (AFSI), with Indonesia as the sponsoring economy and host of the event, and Thailand and Canada as co-sponsors.
Agricultural Biotechnology Seminar Series
The seminar series brought together scientists, regulators, and policy makers to discuss recent advances in genetic engineering and genome editing and products developed using these technologies. The project’s objectives were:
- Create a foundational knowledge of how genome editing can be used to improve agricultural breeding programs.
- Create foundational knowledge of how products of genome editing are regulated globally and how they might be considered in Indonesia.
- Create an enabling environment for adoption of products of genome editing.
