Agricultural Biotechnology Seminar Series 2022 – Seminar 1: Genetic Engineering and Genome Editing in Agriculture, Application and Challenges

    May 11, 2022
    8:30 am - 10:45 am
    Virtual (Time in ICT/GMT+7)
    Bangkok, Thailand

Part of the Agricultural Biotechnology Seminar Series, this virtual seminar was a one-day event led by experts that facilitated delivery of presentations on genetic engineering and genome editing and encouraged open discussion on the regulation of products of genetic engineering and genome editing between APEC member economies. The workshop was organized by the Agriculture & Food Systems Institute (AFSI), with Thailand as the sponsoring economy and host of the event, and Canada as a co-sponsor.

Agricultural Biotechnology Seminar Series

The seminar series brought together scientists, regulators, and policy makers to discuss recent advances in genetic engineering and genome editing and products developed using these technologies. The project’s objectives were:

  1. Create foundational knowledge of how genetic engineering and genome editing can be used to improve agricultural breeding programs.
  2. Create foundational knowledge of commercially available crops and livestock that were developed using genetic engineering and genome editing.
  3. Create an enabling environment for adoption of products of agricultural biotechnology developed using genetic engineering and genome editing.
