A personal take from Stephanie Carter on her work with AFSI, what inspires her, and challenges she has overcome.

What do you hope to accomplish with your work?

The logistics aspect of my job is a huge part of what AFSI does. I always organize each workshop and meeting to be as seamless as possible. AFSI has a reputation for sponsoring excellent events, and I work daily to maintain that reputation. On the operations side, I helped AFSI to smoothly transition to a new workspace in 2020 and ensured that the staff’s “must haves” and “nice to haves” were incorporated into the space.

What impact will that have on people's lives?

I can say I’ve impacted several meeting attendees’ lives by ensuring they have a good and safe experience attending an AFSI event. We had a situation last year where we had invited a dozen Chinese delegates to a meeting in DC and afterwards the meeting changed locations to Ohio. Once we arrived at the DC airport, the weather changed and our flight to Ohio was canceled. It was midnight and no hotel could accommodate the entire group. I was able to rebook all the delegates and staff on the next available flight the next morning, and then I contacted a local youth hostel (yep!) and got sleeping pods (yep!) for all fourteen of us. No easy feat, but they liked the experience and lived to tell the tale!

The friends I’ve made and the things I’ve learned are the best part of working at AFSI

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my longevity of over 30 years at AFSI. Institutional memory frequently comes in handy.
