A Review of the Environmental Safety of the CP4 EPSPS Protein

Agriculture & Food Systems Institute

This document provides a comprehensive review of information and data relevant to the environmental risk assessment of the protein 5-enolpyruvylshikimate- 3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS). The gene for this protein was isolated from Agrobacterium sp. strain CP4. CP4 EPSPS confers resistance to the herbicide glyphosate and is expressed in approximately 30 approved genetically engineered events/stacks representing seven plant species.
