Andrew Roberts, Ph.D.
Chief Executive Officer Agriculture & Food Systems Institute (AFSI)

Dr. Andrew Roberts provided an overview of gene editing technology and delivered a presentation on regulatory developments for gene edited crops around the globe at a consultation workshop co-organized by Vietnam’s Biodiversity and Natural Conservation Agency (BCA), Ministry of National Resources and Environment and CropLife Asia. The two-day event aimed to summarize ten years of activities by the National Biosafety Committee and sought consultation on an approach roadmap for research, adoption, and commercialization of gene edited crops in Vietnam. The activity provided an opportunity for sharing information about regulatory developments related to gene edited crops and their commercialization around the world, and particularly in the Asia-Pacific, as well as the current status of research and adoption of gene edited crops in Vietnam and the country’s current regulations on biosafety. The workshop created a platform for regulators, scientists, and industry representatives to discuss relevant regulatory approaches, guidelines for the commercialization of gene edited crops in Vietnam, and future work plans.
