The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the Food Industry Research & Development Institute (FIRDI), U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), and U.S. Grains Council (USGC) hosted a workshop in Taipei on July 19, 2023 to share and exchange regulatory perspectives on the safety assessment of genetically modified (GM) crops for food and feed. Participants included government officials in the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA), Council of Agriculture (COA), and others in the public sector who are involved in GM crop management. Members of the GM Food Advisory Committee, GM Food Safety Committee of the TFDA, and GM Feed Safety Committee of the COA were also invited.

At the workshop, Dr. Bhavneet Bajaj delivered a keynote titled “Overview of Food and Feed Safety Assessment for GM Crops.” The title of Dr. Andrew Robert’s presentation was “All Roads to Rome: Understanding the Variety of National Regulatory Mechanisms for GMOs.”
