Agricultural biotechnology facilitates the development of plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms with traits that contribute to a sustainable and climate-resilient food production system. Part of the Agricultural Biotechnology Seminar Series, this virtual seminar featured presentations and discussions on various issues related to the use and trade of agricultural biotechnologies and their products within the APEC region. This project provided a platform for APEC member economies to have an open discussion about promoting food availability and security through policies that enable biotechnological innovations in agriculture.

Agricultural Biotechnology Seminar Series

By bringing together policymakers, risk assessors, and scientists, the series seeks to foster greater participation and enhance engagement in the APEC High Level Policy Dialogue on Agricultural Biotechnology (HLPDAB) outside of the annual meeting.

This seminar’s objectives were:

  • To foster a comprehensive understanding of the critical role that biotechnological innovations and effective policies play in addressing global challenges related to food availability and security.
  • To encourage informed discussions, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among stakeholders to collectively work towards enhancing food production, ensuring food security, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
