OECD Safe by Design Pilot Project Drafting Group Face-to-Face Meeting

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) hosts two Working Parties related to biotechnology, the Working Party on the Safety of Novel Foods and Feeds and the Working Party on the Harmonisation of Regulatory Oversight in Biotechnology. The Agriculture & Food Systems Institute (AFSI) is pleased to participate as an observer organization in both Working Parties and is acting as co-lead, together with the Government of the Netherlands, on a pilot project to further refine a proposal for the Working Parties to consider on the development of a Safe by Design Document.

In order to facilitate the work of the drafting group for this pilot project, AFSI hosted a face-to-face meeting in Washington, DC on November 7-8, 2022. The meeting included discussions of the key concepts behind safe by design and their applications, as well as a review of the drafting group’s progress, with the intention of developing a work plan to be presented to the OECD Working Parties in April 2023.
